[ I am using Championship manager: handheld for PSP season 05/06. I am East Stirling Fc. Third Division. £60,000 to spend.]

THE SUN

Chelsea gunned down

Arsenal have won the community shield with a 6-5 win over Chelsea. The game was end to end and only a henry 40 yard volley on 95 minutes finished the match off...

Thompson signs 1 year deal at East Stirling
ex- Newcastle and England Centre Half David Thompson has been appointed manager of East Stirling. The Third Division side are expected to finish mid table but Thompson expects to finished in the top 3.

I sat behind my new desk in my new office in my new stadium. This was where it would begin- in the scottish league- I was ready (or so I thought) for managerial experience. It was going to be tough. with 1 year to please the board or I was out by the scruff of my neck. I would do it.

I assest the team and found out many players from the reserves had to be promoted to fill in the voids. With only £60,000 this was going to be a hard challenge.

PPre-season fixtures
Clyde - home
Raith Rovers - Home
Dinamo Minsk - Home (real test)
B A T E Barysau - home (real hard test. european challenging team)
Peterhead - Away

So the friendlies were going to be a challenge and I needed to experiment with the team. I promoted Maher, Benson, Gordon, McWilliam, Fraser, Waters and Rowbotham.

I changed the formation to a very complex one 2-6-2 with 2 wing backs and 2 wingers. This was going to be a real struglle but so what. I'll make the most of it.

Est Stirling vs. Clyde

An even sided game with both team having many chances. East Stirling couldn't find the net and were punished on 79 minutes when Alex Williams raced through the Shire's defence and slotted home. 1-0.
Despite various attempts to get back in the game East Stirling couldn't find the net.
Full Time Clyde 1 - East Stirling 0

" David how do you feel about that defeat?"
"To be honest I was a bit disappointed that we lost but we were against tough oposition."
"Your Strikers didn't look sharp. don't you think you should look to sign some better ones?"
" Even if I had the money? No. The lads are 16 and 24 years old, youngsters and they play in the third division not the premier."

I walked off and went to talk to the team.
"Cracking display lads. We didn't diserve to lose. But remember they play in the second division and are pushing for promotion." Not really but I wanted to lift their spirits. " We are in the third division pushing for mid table."
The lads looked heartened after that and left the stadium in high spirits.
I walked back to the car and just then the Chairman called me.

"Cracking performance son. Good to see you can wield a side that can make life difficult for the favourites of the match. It looks like we made the right choice appointing you son."

"I don't think you should go that far boss. We lost today remember? Anyway I've got to go. Bye"

I cut him off and drove home.

I woke up early and drove straight to the training ground for training. I went to the changing rooms and took down the timetable and added sprints, practice matched, tactical training and Shooting drills.

When the players came in they cheered, a big relief swept over me. We needed to train properly for the new season. Only a few days until the Raith Rovers match. The training match went well and the players looked fit.

When we got outside we saw a Rangers coach parked outside.
What are these doing here? Rangers at East Stirling? I thought to myself.
Then the driver walked over to me.
"Excuse me but we were meant to have a friendly today at 12:00. Did you forget or something?" He asked me
"I don't know what your on about. I havn't set up any friendlies with Rangers FC" I replied calmly.
"Then how come your assistant called me and organised a friendly last week?" He asked
"Sorry but I don't have an assistant. It must have been a haox." I said raising my voice at his manner towards me.
I turned on my heel and walked to my car and drove off.

The next day I drove to Firs Park and chose my starting 11. No changes from the first game. Only 3 youth players on.

Kick off- East Stirling 0 - 2 Raith Rovers.
A very poor game with only 4 real chances and 2 of them were scored. I'm not looking forward to the Dinamo Minsk game.

I drove back home and looked at the players development sheet and I decided to play all 6 young players that I brought up from the reserve squad.

East Stirling 1 vs Dinamo Minsk..........1!!!
A very one sided game and they were lucky to get a draw following the performance we produced out of nowhere.
Next game same line-up.
Goalscorer - Diack.

East Stirling 3!!! vs. B A T E 0!!!!!
What can I say we totally outclassed a european cup challenging team. But following injuries not the same team vs. Peterhead.
Goalscorers - Maher (16 year old) x2 and Rowbotham (17 year old)
A fantastic result.

East Stirling 0- Peterhead 1
A very good performance by the team but injuries in every department of the pitch took it's toll on the Stirling team

The Stirling Chronicle
Winger in!!!
Today David Thompson has revealed his first signing of the season. Scottish left winger Donald Reid signed a 4 year deal with the Shire earlier today. This is what Thompson thought about the signing.
"I'm very happy to have signed such a talent for such a low amount of money. To be honest I was surprised he accepted the offer to go down a league."
"It has always been a dream of mine to work for such a legend like David" Donald replied.
He only said that because he wants to get in y good books I thought to myself.

I walked back up to my office and saw the chairman had left a note on my desk. It read:
Dear David
I just wanted to let you know that I think it's time for you to find a new assisstant.
I also wanted you to know that your first competitive game is the league challenge cup against St. Johnstone

I turned on my laptop and looked up all unemployed assisstants then checked their stats. I eventually got an English Premiership old boy... Paul Kitson.
I went to my team selection and thought ahead to the St. Johnstone game. I eventually picked my team:
Gk: Jackson
DC: Bryson
DC: Tyrrell
DMR: Gordon
DML: McWilliam
DMC: Rae
AMR: Fraser
Aml: Reid
AMC: Maher
FC: Diack
FC: Rowbotham

I thought that was a good enough team to play against St. Johnstone.
Just then there was a knock on the door. It was Sir Alex Ferguson!!!
"Good day son. I have been watching your matches lately and I like what I see so I was wondering, do you want a friendly against manchester United?
I was speachless, S A Ferguson talking to me!!!
"Y-y-y-y-y-y-yes. Cert-certainly. Ho-how about the 27th of Decmeber?" I asked
"Erm- I'll get back to you on that" He turned and left leaving me a dribbling wreck.
I just sat there thinking of waht had happened when someone knocked on the door. I straightened up.
"Come in" It was...

I doubt the Manager of Man United would knock on someones door, walk in, say he wants a friendly and leave, what would have happened is that Carlos Quireoz would have contacted you by phone or e-mail and I doubt Man United would waste a friendly against a team like East Stirlingshire.

Other than that, your writing style isnt bad!

And also, why not a pre season friendly and why the 27th? United would have a league match on Boxing Day, the 26th!

I checked on their fixtures and they have one on the 24th and why not a pre-season fixture?
Because my league challenge cup game was the day afterwards then the league started.

Good story except there are a couple of holes.

1. East Stirlingshire play in Falkirk.
2. The stadium is a dump. It doesn't have an office and i'd be surprised if it even had a desk.(The board of directors meet in a shack)

Apart from those two things it's a very good story
