what, if any man marking do people use. I used to always man mark the opposition strikers on older cm's but on this version I have found i concede a lot less if i don't man mark what do people think?

First let me say that I use a 3-5-2 formation, with one DM, two MCs and two wingers in the midfield.
When I play a team with one striker up front I usually mark with my DM (Javi Martínez). If a team has two strikers I usually mark them with the two MCs (Hamsik and Jenas or Huddlestone) and leave the DM set to zonal. I always leave the three DCs set to zonal.
This may seem a bit too defensive, but I find that it works pretty well. If an opponent has only 1 striker, they'll be a bit more defensive, so it's nice to have the two MCs not marking so that they can get into attack a bit more. If the team has 2 strikers marking with the MCs (with the DM behind them in zonal) makes my team a bit more defensive. Obviously the midfielders I've listed are all quite good at marking & tackling, otherwise this probably wouldn't work so well.

i never man mark and i found its a big mistake to man mark on defending corners its better to just set the players to back. well atleast the 1s not marking tall and small players

What I found is that if you have both DC's on man mark (assuming 4-4-2 here btw) then you get hammered. I tend to go for putting my best DC against their most dangerous forward and either the wing back, MC or both on the other player.
If you have both on the man mark tight then other opposition players can just waltz through your defence at will, and your wingbacks cannot cope with the zoanl work of the DC's as well.
By using either or the wingback / MC then it leaved one DC on zonal who can cover the middle better. It does leave that flank a bit more exposed though if you go for the tight man marking option.
My personal preference is DC close on the main attacker, the MC close on the second attacker, and if he's a bit tasty too then the wingback on loose man marking.
Any thoughts on this?

I also found man marking with the DCs led to being beaten. I also use my DM to pick up the opposing striker. I usually pick the most dangerous if they are playing two up front. My problem is with corners. I keep getting beaten by chelsea (who doesn't?) at corners because a defender (alex) has great heading and jumping stats. I'm trying to work out how to man mark him off the park during corners only. I will have another look at the settings.

You could try setting your DCs (and other tall players) to Defend Corner, Mark Tall Player from the "Set Piece Instructions for Player" menu. Does anyone have any idea about the effectiveness of these settings? I've had good luck with the Attack Corner settings, but haven't really tried the Defend Corner settings much.

i'll usually let my dm do man marking if the opposition plays with only 1 striker. i'll have my dm man marking him tight for the whole game. and yes , both my dm have been doing well for me. mascherano and hamsik. cheers.
