Anyone else getting bored with waiting for the new CM09 to come out?.
Can't believe we've got to wait another 4 months.

3 months... the demo in March. And yeah waiting sucks but imagine how amazing this game is going to be. You always hear how FM is the big brother of this game genre... No after this release i believe people will start taking CM seriously like the rest of us.

It's bad news although as they are bringing it out 3/4 of the way through the season they should sell it for 3/4 off the price.
If they were doing this as a favour then we could wait forever but as they want £40 odd then they should have brought it out by now, depending on when 2010 comes out I think I will wait.
If in my company I brought something out 5 or 6 months later than proposed I would lose my job.
CM is my favourite game, has been since 1999/00 season but it's getting beyond the joke.

Look, I still don't understand. Do you want a crappy game coming out in just a few months, or a highly developed game which can do a lot better than FM?
I can't get why people continue to complain. I'm happy because I can just finish up a couple of new challenges up in the CM08 General Discussion thread with CM08, and at the same time try out FM09 which I got for myself to try.
And FM09, I've tried it, takes a lot of work to even install. It took me 2 days and 8 tries to finally get the right Game Code, because the Is and the 1s were always the other way around, like Os and 0s (confusing).
3/4 of the price is unfair. For BGS and Eidos. Come on, gimme a break. Despite being 3/4 through the season, you have a nice team which is probably better and more updated, as BGS have the time to look for the best research and more leagues. Similarly, pushing it out in December/November would basically just mean that you'd have less options, and a much lousier game. This would hence fall behind FM as well, who have a (though lousy) 3D system, and a much wider game base which includes the Singapore leagues as well.
Roy came in with an aim to make the game into a new dimension, with a very high quality 3D view, making the players look like the real players. 18-months is fair, rather than taking 10 months to rush out something, and also not have the whole staff focusing on 09 when they try to develop it for CM2010, hence, an even lousier game overall.
Groggy, I agree. Honestly speaking, CM comes out when FM09 starts to die down, and people will start buying, which is all the better for BGS because it'll have more cash too.
So please, I'm tired of people constantly complaining about the release date being so late. Grow up. Think of it economically. Don't just think about you. Think about the reasons behind it, and you'll see the logic.

We'll have to wait and see, I hope and expect that they'll stick to their deadline and as for the rest of you lot complaining give it a rest, it may be out a lot later than usual but there are far more pressing things in this world rather than a game and it's Christmas time so just enjoy it

I'd rather it be out now than in April especially if the next one will be out 6 months later.

May people saw the need for the game to start moving forward so instead of rushing and releasing one big bug they will take their time and release a fantastic game. People without patience should just stay off these forums as it makes all the other people annoyed.... PEACE

i can almost say i've never played any other game in my life except 01/02,i only tried to play this new releases of cm or fm whatever,fm 2008 was the last new game i played for few weeks and the game was much better than cm 2008 so don't expect too much,i wouldn't be too surprised if this game becomes a dissapointment!

Hell of a long time since I've posted but anyway.
Personally, whilst the extra development time should undenyably improve the quality of the game, I find it hard to believe that this is the main reason for the game to be pushed back. Whether people like or dislike CM, one thing they can't deny is that sales of 07 and 08 were not particullarly good. Now, Roy Meredith comes in. Pressumably, to get where he has, he has a good deal of business sense. He takes a look at the market and sees that in terms of sales, there are two football management games that sell better and are also released around the same time. The brand name is also one that has also suffered badly recently so it's probably fair to say that you don't really want to be releasing a game around the same time of two bigger competitors, especially when one of them is a massive seller all year round.
Now this is obviously purely speculation on my behalf, but from a business perspective, it makes perfect sense. But it could also be a fatal gamble. On one hand, the fact that none of the competition will be releasing a game at this time could be a good thing. It will certainly give CM better coverage, and, if people are gettng bored of FM, might tempt them into buying CM. But at the same time, it really is the worst time of the year to rerlease a football game. The only football games that come out at this time are either World Cup or Euros games, or ones that have been heavily delayed, namely, CM4 and CM5, and both, it's fair to say, were pretty poor quality. It comes at a time when interest in football is starting to die off. The season is in it's dying weeks, and for many, football is starting to fade from their minds for a few months, especially if their teams fate is pretty much decided, and even more so with there being no tournament this summer. There is every chance that CM will just not appeal to some people, especially if they are still playing other games.
Anyway, personally, I hope the move does move pull off. Whilst I am fully enjoying FM09, I like to think of myself as a consumer with a brain, and rather then blindly buying one game out of bizarre loyalty, I would much rather buy the better product, whatever game that is. I've got to admit tha I've not enjoyed the new iterations of CM, although I did see what were for me, the first glimmers of potential. I'm eagerly awaiting the release of the demo and am hoping it can be the first step towards being serious competition for FM.

The reasons for an April release have been mentioned and discussed several times. Several factors were taken into consideration, but the major one was that in order to help move the game on, we needed the extra development time. Even the GUI has been overhauled for this version.
In the meantime we've been working on things like the new website, making 01/02 available as a free download etc in order to try and help pass the time (and this hasn't impacted on our schedule) :)
So as we now enter into the later stages of the dev cycle, we'll be in a better position to talk about the game more.
Thanks for your patience guys, I know it's frustrating but we made the decision on a longer dev cycle so that we could deliver a better management experience for '09, and also so that the game would be in a better position for future enhancements.

I'd rather it be out now than in April especially if the next one will be out 6 months later.
:(
So you'd rather have a game which is in no way better than FM09 come out now, and let CM lose the market competition they've kept up all along? CM08 is good, but not great compared to the standards set by FM. CM09 needs to be at that standard there, and this longer development cycle will help CM gradually reach that stage to ensure that they don't lose customers to FM.
I agree with your opinion Bongo-Bongo. Honestly this could be a very successful market move, yet of course, could backfire heavily. But risks have to be taken. Despite being 3/4 of the way through the season, we'll have the most updated version with all the bugs all ironed out, unlike FM in it's first week of release.
One question Cappo: You mentioned, "In the meantime we've been working on things like the new website, making 01/02 available as a free download etc in order to try and help pass the time." The thing about that is, aren't you guys working on CM09? Do you really have the 'spare' time to do all that work?
messi2008, I think you are just overreacting. We should trust these guys, because the screenshots we've seen are really good. If they say April, then it's gonna be in April. Roy used to work at EA, if I'm not mistaken, and if I'm not wrong they have a very tight schedule to keep on to.
Sticking to my original point, I think the risk taken here may pay off, as the season closes fans will want something new to play with while waiting for football to kick off again as 2009 brings only a Confederations Cup, which I think only people from or in South America would most likely watch. Hence CM09 is timed out such that fans can CM09 to play, instead of having FM which after a while people will get bored with.

do you think that the game will have activation problems like FM09.

I hope that nothing like that will be visible. If yes then unfortunately i will have to play cm03/04 or cm08 again. Still i'm waiting for official information about system requirements.

If CM dont learn from FM's really rookie mistakes with the activation then i would assume they got qualifications out of a vending machine. Seriously though we can all assume that they will take into account our aging computers (some of us).

Simply different people working on different areas to be honest!
It was all part of our plans, the bigger picture if you will. Whilst everyone has input where possible or when relevant, I for example am covering the website and forums amongst other things, whereas programmers are involved in the game, we don't overlap in that sense, and when the potential for overlap is there, the time for that work has already been planned in.
I feel I must make a point of saying there are always numbers of people working long after they should have gone home, or coming in at weekends as well. The fact that some are on first name terms with some of the cleaners is testament to this :D and there are always emails flying about in the early hours of the morning or of a weekend so commitment is one thing that can't be questioned!

As far as I know (i.e. last discussion I was aware of) we aren't planning on going down the activation route.
