Hello to the cm community :)

I am new to these forums so please go easy on me :)

After being a avid fan of the football manager series since fm2005 and the previous cm series since 1992 i have lost patient with the football manager series.

The fm09 was a disaster in my opinion and was nothing more of a update from fm08 except the awful 3d engine implimented. Will not be buying fm10 as i feel they can add nothing new to the game which would be classed as a stand alone game instead of a product which has had a minor update.

Bought championship manager 5 many years ago and hated it was poor in management football gaming and stayed away from the cm brand.

So with intrest i saw articles on cm09 and looked impressed but have to ask you all why should i buy this game?

Because it's going to be far better than last time, and even if you don't love it then it'll remain a game to play quite a bit and see the changes. Worth £25 of your money any day..

Thank you turpin :)

Love the look of the game and seems they have taken a real look at the football management games and thought we can do better especially with the scouting system looks impressive already as long as the match engine is good it will be worth the £25.00

Why should you buy it? To keep Cappo in a job, poor guy.

Why should you buy it? ...

The team decided to put the game on hold because they thought it wasn't up to the standards they wanted. That shows commitment and dedication to the fan base. Hopefully, the final product will be the best game ever.

Have a look at this review as well. Shows a few bits of the game:

Agree with you FM09 was a disaster for me too mate, this is why I’m waiting CM09 with no game to play , which is kind frustrating

Why you buy it, may be:
- for a change , we all need a change in some time of our life, it is always useful. In worst scenario it gonna make you appreciate the old game more, and good scenario it could make you discover a better game
- CM09 is a refurbished game, so you have to try it, the reference to old CM done by BGS are irrelevant
- for me at least, I admired BGS decision to not rush the game without making sure it is acceptable, something other games don’t do often, so feel now I can pay them back for the respect they showed to us and at least try the game.
- CM rating & the game itslef improve every year, so sure we gonna have much much better game
- and sure most important one..... to give us more chance to have more chat with you mate :D

FM2009 is an awfull game, I've always been Championship Manager from the first time it came out, But recently, I got an original copy of FM2009 for 10 quid off a guy my brother works with, So it was the first time ever playing FM2009, After about a week i just wanted to throw it in the bin, Far to much going on in that game, The tactics are awfull, the 3d game engine looks like a ZX Spectrum game, total rip off even for 10 quid.

Yepp had similar experience too, I always buy FM from a friend as gonna be bored by mid of year after playing FIFAM, but usually It take me sometime till get bored by FM, I play it for 2-4 months in general before going trying CM, but this year it was just painful, as you said tactic in FM09 was not up to it, but this combined with needing 25-30 to move in match day screens till starting the 3d !! was really painful !!..though my PC is slightly better than Req. spec. !! as 3d match run ok !! and I had only English leagues active.. just hated FM09
CM09 look awesome, and the more news we get, the more we find how amazing the game is and how much they improved ….. I’m putting all my chips on them this year :D

Ohh wake me up when you all have something positive to say....slagging off fm09...arguing about whether it should be cm09 or cm10.

It's nice weather out there; go do something useful like save the planet, plant a tree help your parents in the house...get a life...yawnnnnnnnnnn

It basically is, "I can't win, I can't figure out the tactics, I can't give myself an extra £20,000,000 to start with, I can't sign players I shouldn't be able to" et cetera.

To be honest i don't like FM09 too.Older FM editions were very good and this one has disappointed me,but shwan is talking nonsense.FM is still miles ahead of any game in this genre,i hope that CM will prove me that i'm wrong.FIFA M has it's depth focused on buying a house, not managing a football team.BGS CM i've played too little but what i saw was not good(i'm maybe too gentle),but you can see that they are giving their best to make CM once mora a brilliant game.

They really need improvements like they did in CM,every new FM looks like a season update with minor features added. This year's 3d engine(tbh this is a major improvement although i hate 3d)and press conferences were added, and there were too many bugs.I couldn't play the game before the last patch, but after it i didn't have any problems. This is my last save, board was very satisfied with me and i had very good results.I'm nervous when i lose points in one goal shot although i was much better than my opponent, and that would be often!

You should buy it because if you don't tiny little fairies will sneak into your room at night and disembowel you slowly limb by limb until you're a torso then they'll attach peg legs to where your legs were meant to be and then rope where your arms were and then they'll, somehow, make it so all you can do is lay still and listen like that fella in that Metallica video... it's from and old film I think... anyway you get the idea... so long story short - buy it

You can’t say that people in Germany or Spain or many other countries buy FIFAM more than FM because they can buy houses !! sure you must know outside UK, FM is not highest selling game at every country. You admit you played little.. so you can’t have good idea about it, to have features like having GF or buy a house !! I never used them tbh and many FIFAM users never did. And sure it is wrong to judge a book from 1-2 pages and ignore the rest of 200 pages. They are extra feature for who love it.

Regarding FM difficulty level, well with all helps and tactical guides and tips in FM, it is not that hard to win tbh
I told you people in FM were able to make San Marino champions of all world competitions.

Regarding tactics, I know it's something that's had a hell of a lot of work put into. I was speaking to Tom from design earlier, and the impact of making changes (or not making changes) is something in particular that's been looked at.

When we get the dev blogs up and running hopefully that will cover in more detail

thanks Cappo, tactic is what i care about more , who don’t ? it is the core of management game I guess
so any further news about it will be very appreciated

Kudos to them for pioneering it but it wasn't the greatest- more a working progress for the coming years. It is now CM's turn to see what their first effort can do.

Quite the opposite for me.

I haven't visited this forum for years but after playing FM08 and 09 I'm willing to give CM another look. Its not that FM was hard (it wasn't) its just that the 3d view showed you so many howlers that I firmly believe the AI for the match engine is broken.

Why buy it? That's a rather silly question.

The question is "Why should I download the demo", and the answer is that the previews released so far look good. They look new, fresh, different. They look worth trying.

If the demo is good, that will then be reason enough to buy.

Hopefully this can be the new USM, a management game that actually pushes SI and forces huge improvements rather than "three steps forward, two steps back".

The match engine is the most important as in FM09 @ FML it's poor and out of sync and the amounts that have complained is unlimited and if CM09 is going to take the crown of the best footie management sim they need to get that right.

The match engine in FM09 isn't that bad, imo, i actually enjoy the 3d engine most of the time. It's the way they screwed up the tactics and match engine that disappointed me, and alot of fans.

One of my biggest gripes with FM09 is the removal of arrow freedoms, limiting them to forward or back only. This is a very pathetic attempt to curb down on "diablo" style cheat tactics that were exploiting the match engine in previous games, by taking away tactical freedom. I would like to be able to start out with a rigid 4-4-2, but depending on the players, if i have one very attacking winger (like Ronaldo) and one hard working (Park), i like the freedom to be able to switch to 4-3-3 on the fly whenever i have the ball and are attacking. This might be possible by tweaking individual settings but it would be much easier if i could just give them arrows, or even better, seperate into two tactics for with and without possession.

Also two smaller issues that are constantly raised, is the transfer system (unrealistic prices, too many transfers between rival clubs), and regens. Too many regens (like 90%+) come out with crap physical stats, and technical stats in the wrong areas.

SI were under presure from Sega to release that FM09 for the xmas stockings list and they made a big boo boo.

SI knew it was not worthy of a release at that date but because Sega pay there wages it's like oh yes sir three bags full sir and if they had the balls in the first place they would not have released that pile of tripe.

What really broke the camels back for me was the amount of bugs the game was unplayable and was paying 25.00 for the trouble and to cap it all the only improvement over FM08 was the naff unrealistic 3D engine and yet again 25.00 for the trouble.

Arrows do not represent movement anymore, I think you've misunderstood that, based on your post here. Arrows now represent the 'forward runs' setting in FM.
