Firstly lads, I want detail in here. The type of of tactics you would play, what roles players would have in your team etc. The whole point of this draft was for discussion and fun. This will certainly aid the discussion.
I still want all discussions kept in the "Discussions thread". This is for teams only and will help researchers who will be selecting the winner(s) form here. If you want to see what i'm talking about. I'm going to start writing my report on my team now. Wait until it's finished if you want to see what i'm talking about. Thank you. ![]() Dave. |

------------------Peterswellman's Team---------------------
My team in the order they were picked: 1. Roy Keane ![]() One of the best born-leaders to ever grace the Premiership. Keano, imo was the best. In his early days, he was a complete box-to-box midfielder. Scored goals, broke up play, and the leadership he gave to United at times in beyond belief. He always knew who to motivated team-mates and was always looking to get the best out of them. His agression, was second to none. He didn't care for reputations on fame, his only concern was winning trophies. For me, he was the perfect first pick. Would give me an excellent player to build my team around, right in the middle of the park. 2. Matt Le Tissier ![]() Le Tissier was in my eyes, one of the best technicially gifted and naturally talented player to ever grace the Premiership. Le Tissier could pick a pass from 40 yards away and land it smack bang on a 10 pence. Undoubtedly a top class player, underrated in his prime and had he moved to a better club could of been seen as an all time great. His scoring ability(where he scored league 162 goals in 443 appearances. That's a goal every 2.5 games, playing from midfield in a team often challenged with avoiding relegation) was excellent from midfield, along with his set-piece taking abilties. He was also the finest penalty taker to ever grace the Premiership, missing only a single spot-kick in his entire career. He scored 48 from the spot in all competitions. It's not spot-kicks he'll be remembered for though. Le Tissier had a penchant for the spectacular, and frequently featured in Goal of the Month and Season competitions. He had the uncanny ability to pick the ball up 40 yards from goal, saunter forward and smack a screamer into the top corner with either foot. Imo, he will complement very well with Keane. Keane will do the work and Le Tisser will produce the moments of brillance, link up with the strikers, take my set-pieces. if this was for real, he would be an incredible asset to my team. 3.Tim Flowers ![]() Flowers was one of the best keepers ever to grace the EPL. Having got more than 500 league appearances during his career, he was one of the star keepers of the first decade of the Premiership. If he wasn't under such strong competition from Nigel Martyn and the best English keeper since Peter Shilton/Gordon Banks, David Seaman. This limited his apperances for the English national side to just 11. However, it didn't stop Blackburn Rovers recognising his worth. He was transferred from Southampton to Blackburn in 1993 for a fee of £2.4million. He was a key presence in Rovers run to the title. On top of the league title, he also won a league cup with Leicester City. Flowers was an excellent shot-stopper and highly reliable. He gave me a solid base to build my defence. Although, it may have been a mistake on my part taking a keeper so early as it made me miss out one or two of my targets in later rounds. 4. Didier Drogba ![]() In my opinion, Drogba is one of the most dangerous strikers in the world, capable of absolute magic. He is a fantastic target man, can hold up the ball brilliantly, has a bit of skill about him and is a natural finisher in front of goal. He was shown as one of the world's best during the 2006/2007 season, he won the premier league golden boot award, scoring 20 goals in 37 Premier League matches. In total that season he amassed 33 goals in 60 games, including some of the most important goals for Chelsea. A fabulous return for any player it must be said. One of the main reasons I picked Drogba, was that he doesn't need exceptional ball played to him for him to win it. He is a match winner, a game changing player, a fabulous athlete and a handful for any defence. I was amazed he last so far down in the picking order if i'm honest. He has a few Premiership medals to his name and has been key to Chelsea's success. However, there have been times where people have question his attitude. That aside, still one if the best strikers to grace the premiership ever. He will lead my line very well, strong, quick and an excellent finisher. One of my best picks imo. 5. Ricardo Carvalho ![]() The fee of 19 million pounds seemed a bit excessive for a relatively unknown defender but since joining Chelsea four years ago he has yet to finish outside the top 2 in the league, and has two titles under his belt, as well as and FA Cup, 2 Carling Cups, a Community Shield and a Champions League runners up medal. He is an absolute model of consistency and since joining Chelsea has developed into probably the best defender in the Premiership, if not the world. People go on and on about John Terry but the fact is, that it is Carvalho who keeps the Chelsea ticking at the back. A superb reader of the game who is strong in the air and solid on the ground with the ball at his feet. Another great pick imo, has been one of the reasosn for Chelsea's recent success. Tbh, it wouldn't really matter who I would play alongside Carvalho, he would be still brillant. Very happy to get him in my team. Will hopefully be the gel that holds my team togther. |

6. Arjen Robben
![]() Yes, another Chelsea player. For me, Robben is one of the most dangerous wingers to ever grace the Premiership. When Man United were beaten to the signature of Arjen Robben few expected it to be such a big loss for the former and such a big gain for the latter. Arjen Robben however struck terror into Premiership defences during his time at Chelsea, but particularly during his first two seasons when he was simply scintillating. In his first season with Chelsea, despite missing several games due to a metatarsal injury, he chalked up an impressive goalscoring rate of 7 goals in 18 league appearances and played a big part in Chelsea securing the Premier League title. That same year he also made the 2005 PFA Team of the Year and was shortlisted for the PFA Young Player of the Year award, losing out in the end to Wayne Rooney. Unfortunately a mixture of injuries and tactics damaged his chances at Chelsea after that causing him to move to Real Madrid where he was able to help them to victory in La Liga. Robben is still rated very highly today. He was one of the best wingers to ever play in the Premiership. Speed, skill and could deliver a good ball. For me, he would be the perfect player bombing down the winger and whipping in balls for my two strikers. I said before Drogba doesn't need excellent supply, however, Robben could be the man to give Drogba the supply he needs to bang even more goals in for my team. 7. Nemanja Vidic ![]() For this round I want a commanding centre half and to me the best player I have seen in this position in the premiership to date is. Its no coincidence that United have won two Premier League titles and a Champions League since this man joined the club. Behind every winning team in history there has been a good defence. Rio Ferdinand has looked a different player since Vidic joined him at United and this has more to do with the class of this man than of Ferdinand. I have said it time and time again personally, Vidic is quality. A classic style, centre half, strong, good in the air, brave. All the qualities you would need to be a brilliant central defender. I think, if he continues like he is(which i'm sure he will), he will go down as one of the best defenders ever to play in the Premiership. In my mind he's already there, given his form in the current season and he looks certain to help United push for another Premiership title. I said it during my discussion of the Carvalho pick, that I wouldn't need a quality central defender to play alongside Carvalho but it didn't stop me picking him. Nemanja would complement Carvalho perfectly, he would offer the power and Carvalho would offer the skillful centre back option. 8. Benito Carbone ![]() Carbone has spells in England with Sheffield Wednesday, Aston Villa, Bradford city, Derby Count and Middlesborough. He arrived at Wednesday from Italy, in 1996 for £3 million. He quickly became a cult hero at Wednesday and helped them maintain their Premiership statusover the course fo a few seasons. Carbone became the club's highest goal scorer for the 1998–99 season scoring nine goals and was voted the fan's favourite player. He scored in total for Wednesday 25 goals in 96 games which is a good return from the player. He fell out ith Wednesday over a contract dispute and moved to Villa for an undisclosed fee and played for a season. He recieved an FA Cup runners-up medal. On the way, he scored a memorable hat-trick against Leeds United, including a cracker stike from 35 yards. Next season he joined Bradford City on a free transfer, he became unhappy with the wage situation. However, he scored a few magical goals for Bradford and endeared himself to the games. In total, for Bradford he scored, 10 goals in 42 games. A great record for a club that got themselves relegated. He played the start of the following season with them as well as pledging his future to them. He later however made loan moves to both Derby and 'Boro. He was much criticised in the media for it. However, that criticism is unjust as he had become a hugely popular figure with both Wednesday and Bradford. Carbone was a magical footballer and could play anywhere along midfield and even up front. He was in the Wednesday team where Di Canio was getting alot of credit. However, it was Carbone that was pulling the strings for the club. He had a fantastic goal-scoring record for these clubs and that is why I selected him. On top of the fact, he coudl also provide a magical pass to set up goals for his team mates. Imo, it wouldn't be one of my better picks. That aside Carbone is an excellent player and I feel he woudl fit in very well in my side. My main reason for selecting him was his flexibity, as I hadn't decided on what exact formation I was going to use at this stage. |

9.Tony Yeboah
![]() Yeboah joined Leeds United from Eintracht Frankfurt for a £3.4 million price tag at the start of 1995. Although his Premiership career was fairly short, I still think he has done more than enough to be included in my line-up. Injuries (several picked up while on international duty) restricted his game when he played and kept him out of the Leeds side on several occasions. Yeboah scored a total of 33 goals for Leeds United in 62 appearances, and is still revered as a cult hero for Leeds. He is most famous for his wonder goals for the club, most notably, the wonder strikes against Liverpool and Wimbledon along with his hat-trick against Monaco in the UEFA Cup. In his first season (1995-96) at Elland Road he was voted as the club's first-ever non-British Player of the Year. When George Graham joined there was a clash of personalities and Yeboah was shipped off Hamburg. however even after such a short-time he is still fondly remembered today. Having both strong and very quick strikers up front would strike fear into the hearts of my opponents. I feel that both of them would link up very well and score plenty togther, especially with good ball from the likes of Robben and Le Tissier. 10. Olivier Dacourt ![]() Dacourt began his Premiership career with Everton back in 1998 but only stayed there for one season. After a year back in France with Lens he returned to the Premiership with Leeds and was an integral part of the side which never finished below 5th in the league under David O'Leary and reached the Champions League semi finals in 2001. He was excellent in that season and really made a name for himself. He can run, beat people, tackle, pass, block and essential provide the protection my quality centre backs need. This was the pick where I made the decision, in my formationm not go with any full-backs. I felt my team could function well without them and Dacourt will have a big role to play in this. In my team he will be playing the holding midfield role. 11. Joseph Yobo ![]() And to end my team, my final pick was Joseph Yobo. In 2002 a loan deal with Everton was agreed. A £1M fee was required to register the player, and he became the first signing of new manager David moyes. An option to make the move permanent was taken up and completed in 2003 after a dispute between Yobo and Marseille was settled, with Everton agreeing a fixed additional fee of £4M. Since signing for Everton, Yobo became one of the most consistent players in the Everton squad, and was one of only seven players in the entire league to play every minute of every game throughout the 06/07 season. Yobo, is strong, quick, good in the air and equally as good on the ground with the ball at his feet. He is an integral part of the current Everton side. I was happy enough to get him at this late stage. It was a very difficult decision for me to make. there was one other guy I had in mind but Yobo's sheer athlelicism was the defining factor, as he'll have to be fairly quick given that I have no full-backs in my team. That completes my team. Below you will find me discussing the teams formation among other aspects. |

-------------------------------Flowers---------------------------------
----------------Carvalho---------Vidic-----------Yobo----------------- ------------------------Keane--------Dacourt------------------------- --------Carbone--------------Le Tissier---------------Robben--------- ----------------------Drogba----------Yeboah----------------------- Formation I have chosen is a modified 3-5-2. It incorprates two holding midfielders and the attacking trio i have quite well in my opinion. Now i'll go though the team in order of poistions. Goalkeeper/Defence Not really much to say on Flowers. His goal kicking and punting will be delivered long towards my two powerhouse attackers. They in turn will look to hold up the ball or flick in on for team-mates. I'm very happy with my defence over all. I feel Vidic would work very well with the other two guys. Vidic will be instructed to hold the defence togther. He will be put marking the bigger/strong striker and will be man markering him. He'll give me 100% everytime and that's exactly what I want. Carvalho and Yobo will be more zonal markers. They will both be instructed to mark the other striker depending on which side he is roaming. they will also be instructed to push slightly wider to cover the runs of the wingers. Depending on what side the winger is on the ball, either Carvalho or Yobo will be instructed to go to meet him and close down the space. They in turn will be aided by Keane and Dacourt. Midfield Dacourt will be playing the holding midfield role constantly. He never really get forward and just generally always sit in front of the back three. Keane on the other hand will be allowed roam in a box-to-box type role. He has incredible stamina so this should suit him perfectly. When the opposition are on the attack, Keane and Dacourt will be going across to close down the space for the wingers to run into. Carbone and Robben will also be aiding them. When we don't have the ball, it will be up to Carbone and Robben to help Keane and Dacourt double team up on the winger/follow the overlapping full-backs. Robben and Carbone will be instructed to hug the touchline. They will look to run with the ball when we are in possession. They will also try to beat the full-backs at ever opportunity and deliever crosses for my strong strikers. Le Tissier will be given a free-role. He will be the bases for nearly all out attacks. He will be given the ball and allowed to pick out passes for the forwards and wingers to latch onto. He'll be the playmaker in my team. Forwards: Drogba and Yeboah will both be target men. They will be looking to take the ball down and get link with others or have a pop at goal. Yeboah will be also told to have the occasional long crack. As will Le Tissier. The physical power we have up front would no doubt striker fear into our opponents. Not only that but they are both quick too and natural finishers. |

Right then, im gunna be brave and be only the second person to post their final team.
I will try and follow the format of Peterswellman to the best I can.------------------ChampAddict09's Draft Team------------------ Jussi Jaaskelainen ![]() Ok, he is by no means the flashiest keeper or the most skillfull keeper however he has been consistent throughout his time in the Premiership. He is an amazing shot-stopper and has made a big name for himself since joining Bolton. I decided upon a goalkeeper as first choice because I knew that I needed a good base for my team and Jussi definitely fits the bill. Michael Owen ![]() If this guy can remain injury free, we all know he will score goals. He was arguably the best striker around throughout his time with Liverpool before moving onto Real Madrid. He returned to Newcastle, and despite injuries, has been number one striking option ever since. His striking partnership with Emile Heskey helped England reach the World Cup 2002 along with winning numerous other games. I am very glad to have such a prolific goals scorer in my team and will definetely do well up front with the Dutch maestro, Jimmy Floyd Hasseilbank. Robert Pires Versatile, skillfull, pacey, quality. The former Arsenal winger was a prolific part of Arsenal's success over the years and without him in midfield it would have been difficult for Arsenal to have done as well. He has numerous French caps and was an amazing set piece man. (Despite his mess up of a penalty with Mr Henry ) So my third pick was an awesome Frenchman, Robert Pires.John Terry (c) ![]() Suprisingly, current Chelsea and England captain John Terry wasn't picked before round 4. He is a solid, hard working CB who is an outstanding leader for both club and country. He has formed a great centre back partnership with Carvalho over the years and is a great headerer of the football. Without a shadow of a doubt, having a JT in your team will do no harm what so ever Jimmy Floyd Hasseilbank ![]() I was desperate to get the Dutch international as I felt the striking balance would be fenomenal. Hasseilbank isnt a speedy, trickster but Owen is. Owen isnt a strong, powerman, but Jimmy is. He has buckets of experience and had a nice partnership with Eidur Gudjohnsen during his time at Chelsea. He also played for Leeds and Middlesborough in the Premier Division. I think if you want a consistsent goal scoring partnership, Owen and Hasseilbank will provide that.

Olof Mellberg (vc)
![]() I originally intended to play Mellberg at Right Back however I have decided to move him inside and partner JT. He is strong, powerful defender and (like JT) is a great header of the football. He played for Villa and captained the side before leaving for Juventus. I think Olof will add stability and determination to my side therefore he will be my VC. Olof also has played for, and captained the Swedish national side. John Arne Riise ![]() One of the best left backs around. Speedy, amazing left foot, powerful, attacking and genuinely a great defender. He began to fall out of favour with Rafa before moving to Roma in the summer. Despite Riise been a great pick, he was actually my 3rd choice left back. Giovanni Van Bronckhorst and Ian Harte were infront of Riise however a great pick non the less. Scott Parker ![]() Admittably, I have made a big mistake here. Scott is a decent CM nevertheless but why I picked him i'll never know tbh. Because of that, my comments cannot be truly great. Hmm, he is strong and consistent and is attracting interest (for no apparent reason) from Manchester City atm. Forget this, his name his Parker and he's a waste of space ![]() Damien Duff ![]() I am a huge admirer of Duffy and feel his skill and speed is top quality. He formed a great winger partnership with Arjen Robben at Chelsea, switching from left to right, and back again. He is a current Republic of Ireland International who has had a decent impact with the Magpies. Duff has scored numerous crucial goals in his time, cutting in from the left therefore he will add a new dimension to my side. So (after much consideration) my LW will be Duff (not my forward). Mario Melchiot ![]() A solid right back. No flair and tbh no real skill however Melchiot is considered a as a great RB. He has played for Birmingham, Wigan and most notably, Chelsea. He is Dutch and has 22 , not 2 caps. I think that the most accurate word to describe Melchiot would be consistent. He puts in top performances week in, week out and thats why he is considered a great right back. Thomas Hitzelsperger My final pick is one i was considering picking from round 1. I knew not many people would acknowledge his skill therefore i left him till the end. Nobody can doubt his skill, determination or rocket of a left boot however his defence is something left to be desired I will use Hitzelsperger as an AM/F with Parker playing more as a DM. Personally, I think he had the best left foot (for power and precision) the Premier division has ever seen. So completing my Draft team is former Villa midfielder Thomas Hitzelsperger.

Melchiot-----Terry----------Mellberg--------Riise -------------------Parker---------------------- ------Pires------------------------Duff--------- ----------------Hitzelsperger------------------- ----------Owen-------------Hasseilbank-------- My formation is a simple diamond formation with 3 main men been Pires, Duff and Hitzelsperger. Harry Kewell 11. Thomas Hitzelsperger Right, thats me done. Took me ages but was worth it. Although i am very upset all my tactis/positions deleted and my pics haven't worked which is frustrating!!!

Champo_Mad's team
In order of positions 1. Carlo Cudicni ![]() Has been one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League during the early-mid 2000's, particulary before the arrival of Roman's Millions to Chelsea Football Club. The Italian goalkeeper was so highly rated he was linked with a national switchover to England, as he is uncapped by his native Italy. He has made well over 100 appearances for Chelsea, and has been a very good dependable stopper in understudy to arguably the world's greatest 'keeper in Cech. I felt he is a great 'keeper and can easily fit into the side. 2. Gary Kelly ![]() A formidable wing back during the Leeds team throughout the Premier League years, making appearances at the highest level, and clearly competiting, without being out of his depth. Well over 500 appearances for Leeds United, and can provide an attacking overlap within my side. Pleased to have gained him as late in draft as now, and would complement Sherwood as an attacking outlet. 3. Denis Irwin ![]() Arguably, Sir Alex Ferguson's greatest ever signing as Manchester United manager - £625,000. And what a bargain! Mr Reliable at Manchester United throughout the dominant glory years of the '90's. He was comfortable at either full back position, and was excellent at free kicks and spot kicks. He won everything possible within the 12 years he spent at United - 1990-2002; including 7 titles, a league cup, won the FA Cup 3 times, and, also, not forgetting the two European honours of the European Cup and the Cup Winners' Cup. He also spent a year in the Premier League with Wolverhampton Wanderers, with United fans giving him a warm welcome, as expected, when he returned. One of the greatest full backs ever in the Premier League - one Denis Irwin. An excellent defender, who was always going to be my second pick - a fans' favourite too! 5. Steve Bould ![]() An Arsenal stalwert up until 1999, and formed a fantastic back line partnership with Tony Adams, Lee Dixon and Nigel Winterburn. Ruling the back line towards the great double of 1998, contributing to making Tony Adams the player he is. A strong, composed centre half whose presence will be a boost to any side. Injury cut his career short whilst he was at Sunderland, after Arsenal. But no-one can deny he was a great defender - one who will serve my team well. 6. Stephane Henchoz ![]() A player that will complete my defensive back four as Kelly, Bould, Irwin and, now, Stephane Henchoz. The former Swiss International, first joined England in 1997 as a Blackburn Rovers player. When Rovers were relegated in 1999, Henchoz transferred to Liverpool in a deal just under £4million. At Anfield, Henchoz made a formiddable defensive partnership with Sami Hyypia, and played a key part in their trophy haul in 2001. Despite recurring injuries, he still got over 200 games for Liverpool. After a short spell with Celtic, Henchoz moved back to the Premiership under Wigan Athletic. He went back to his first English club, Blackburn Rovers, after a season at the JJB and retired in 2008. Strong and experienced, he will bring his knowledge of the game to partner Bould in defence, and make a great defence for Cudicini to rely on. A good pick so far into the draft.

4. Paul Ince
![]() Spells at Manchester United, Liverpool, Middlesborough and Wolverhampton Wanderers. Adding those to West Ham, Inter Milan, plus a couple of years at lowly Swindon and Macclesfield, spanned Paul Ince's career over 20 years. Over 50 England International caps as well, made Ince one of the most successful midfielders in Premier League history. He will do the donkey work in my midfield, with Scholes adding the creative spark. I feel these two will combine well. A key member of the midfield with superb passing, shooting and cracking tackling, and was integral in United's success in the 90's. The main man in United's double winning side of 1994; and when Ince left United, this paved the way for anotherexcellent centre midfielder - Paul Scholes. 8. Paul Scholes ![]() The greatest player I have ever watched live at a football stadium - and I'm including Ryan Giggs, Roy Keane and Cristiano Ronaldo in that. The down-to-Earth legend of a man is a genius - the only downside of his game is his terrible takling (but even that produces the odd gem!!). I can watch this man play football all day, and never, ever get bored. He doesn't have any stepovers or 360's in his locker, but his passing and shooting can be rivaled by nobody. Bobby Charlton, Zinedine Zidane, and other leading names in European football have praised Scholes, with Zidane announcing that he was his hardest opponent he has ever played against. I would love to know what Scholes thinks when he hears that comment from possibly the greatest footballer of all time. Throughout the second half of the 90's, he was a midfield maestro, late runs into the box to hammer home the winner, lurking on the edge of the area, spraying passes all over the shop, and rarely losing the ball. Sensational. In the mid-00's, Scholesy has adpated his game to match with his aging legs. But he is still up there with the best mdifielders in the world - your Xavi's, your Gerrard's, your Lampard's. He has been at the heart of Manchester United, and still has at least 2 more years at the highest level. Love him. 7. Tim Sherwood ![]() The captain of the Blackburn side which won the Premier League with Walker's money in 1995. Daglish tried to play him wide right early on his Blackburn career, but he failed out wide due to his particualr lack of pace, which is the reason why Sinclair will be going more central in my team, and a 3-man midfield will used to create the chances for the 3 forward men. Sherwood could come very deep for the ball, and link defence and attack very naturally without losing possession - much like the modern-day Paul Scholes. His work rate was excellent, covering every balde of grass in a game, winning over the Blackburn faithful. A touch determined, with a touch of class - captaincy beckoned. Like Scholes, he has the ability to release the ball quickly, which enabled him to be one step ahead of his opposition and enable team mates to have that extra second on the ball - vital in my team. He particulary was good at carrying a underperforming team. 11. Trevor Sinclair ![]() Manchester and London were the places where Trevor Sinclair played his football - City, QPR and the Hammers. Having the ability to play on either flank, but with me having 3 centre midfielders, a free role could optimined for Sinclair, which will give him the freedom of his position and he could roam trying to unlock the opposition's defence. I feel that with England caps on board, experience is valued and with Campbell and Yorke linking up midfield and attack, the team is quality enough to produce the desired performances.

9. Kevin Campbell
![]() Kevin Campbell started his career as an Arsenal player, but particualry made his name in Everton colours. An excellent frontman who will benefit any team, his big and strong presence will be natural to holding up the ball and letting Dwight Yorke come in behind to put the ball in the net. Although most target men's goal grabbing is limited, Campbell is a very natural source. He fired nine goals in as many appearances for Everton and his goals almost single-handedly steered the club away from the drop zone and to mid-table safety, in 1999. He is a fully committed player, who will play for the team. A good option to have, and will look for Sinclair and Scholes, as well as Yorkie to make attacks for my team. He had an amazing ounce of strength which will hold it's won against any defender, and had a good bit of pace which will enable him to get in behind. Left, right or head, he always shows positives from his play. Not really a 20-goal a season man, but he does his job well. 10. Dwight Yorke ![]() A key part of the foursome who guided Manchester United to a historic treble in 1999 - Andrew Cole, Ole Solskjær and Teddy Sheringham the other 3. Always playing with a smile on his face, a likeable figure throughout the game, and becoming a part of United folklore during his time at Old Trafford. However, his Premiership career began at Aston Villa. During his 9 year tenure with the Villa, he made 231 appearances and scored 97 goals. Coupled with the fact that he was top scorer for the Midlanders in 1994-95, 1995-96, and 1996-97. He also won the Player of the Year award for the 1996-97 season. Dwight Yorke switched to Manchester United for a fee of £12.6 million in August 1998. He played a pivotal role for Manchester with his goal scoring ability and emerged as the top league goal scorer for the 1998-1999 season - the best in United's history. Yorke made, in total, 95 league appearances for Manchester United, scoring 47 goals. Altogether he scored 64 goals for Manchester United in 188 appearances. An excellent striker, who will always grab goals. ---------------------Cudicini--------------------------- Kelly---------Bould-------------Henchoz------------Irwin --------Sherwood---------Ince----------Scholes---------- ---------------------Sinclair--------------------------- -------------Campbell---------Yorke--------------------- A 4-3-1-2 formation, with Sinclair in a free role which will see him drifing right and left to try and get a breakthrough in the opposition defence. Goalkeepers/Defence Carlo Cudicini will look for target man Kevin Campbell in attack, holding the ball up for Scholes, SInclair and Yorke all attacking for midfield. I feel my defence could have been stronger, but I feel Bould and Henchoz will be a good backline, strong and they can play a bit too. Bould famously chipping a throughball towards Tony Adams in his days at Arsenal! Henchoz is quick and a tight-marking styled defender, with Bould complementing him perfectly. Both will provide a good strong base for my team. In the full back positions, Gary Kelly will be running up and down that right wing, offering support to either Sherwood or SInclair, whoever finds themselves over that side at the time, and can put in killer crosses for Scholes, Campbell or Yorke to get on the end of. Irwin is Mr. Reliable, penalty and free kick taker in my team, and possibly the greatest full back ever at Manchester United. He will offer an attacking outlet, and will keep the defence in order. Midfield Ince will be the more defensive out of the trio, but not a holding midfielder style which only does the defending. He will get forward at times, and add that ounce of grit which is needed at the highest level. He will work well linking defence with attack, the same goes for Sherwood. Tim Sherwood will add the determination and a touch of class, where he will keep switching with Ince to add that protection of the back four, and change the attacking outlet. Scholes will be the master, the player who will make my team tick. His world class passing will release Gary Kelly and Sinclair down the wings, and putting pinpoint balls over the top for Yorke and Campbell to retrieve. He will be the most attacking out of the 3 centre midfielders, and his late running into the box will send the opposition defence into turmoil, following the fact that Scholes will be lurking on the edge of the area for any scraps to hammer them home. Trevor Sinclair will be given a free role. He will be constantly switching wings to get the most out of the opposition, and can link up well with Irwin and Kelly. His penetration shall be vital. Attack With Campbell the target man, and Dwight Yorke the man on the shoulder of the last defender, I feel this partnership will work. With Campbell picking up the long balls from the back, bringing them down and getting Yorke and the midfield into play. Yorke can always score goals, and can also help link midfield with attack.

In order of position... (GK; RB,LB,CB,CB; LM and so on...)
(sorry, have no idea how to post up the pictures since the forums changed, so I'll post links and when someone shows me how then I'll get it done right.) 1. Mark Bosnich http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Bosnich Spent time in the Premier League with Aston Villa, Manchester United and Chelsea, playing a total of 217 appearances with all 3 clubs in all. Australian international Bosnich also scored once for his country, after being tasked to take a penalty against the Solomon Islands, which saw Australia win 13-0. 2. Alvaro Arbeloa http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alvaro_Arbeloa Arbeloa played left full back in his first season at the Reds, and hence in left-back slot in my team. Joined Liverpool in 2007, Arbeloa has played 54 games for Liverpool to date, scoring 2 goals. One of his more memorable performances was in Liverpool's 2-1 win over Barcelona, where he did a fantastic job of keeping Lionel Messi at bay. His first goal against Reading in the League made him the first number 2 at the time to score in a competitive game, and a league game, since Mike Marsh in 1992. 3. Steve Finnan http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Finnan Finnan played Premier League football for both Fulham and Liverpool, joining Fulham in 1998 and leaving for Liverpool in 2003. Finnan was a reliable defender for both teams, and he started in Liverpool's Champions League Final victory of AC Milan. He played a total of 318 games for both The Cottagers and The Reds, scoring 7 goals in total, 6 for Fulham and one for Liverpool. Scoring for Liverpool meant that he managed to equal a record originally set by Jimmy Willis, by scoring a goal in all 5 highest levels of English football. He currently plies his trade in Spain with Espanyol. 4. Jamie Carragher http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jamie_Carragher Carragher is probably one of Liverpool's most reliable defenders to date, playing for the club all his career, playing 381 top-flight games for the club, scoring 3 goals. His first was against Aston Villa, in 1996, in his first start. Carragher can play all across the defence, and occasionally defensive midfield. Currently retired from international football after being handed a lack of opportunities under then coach Steve McClaren, he was voted as Liverpool's Player of the Year for the 2006-07 season, and stands at 11th place in all time Liverpool appearance lists, after making his 500th appearance in the 2007-08 season. 5. Daniel Agger http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Agger Danish International Agger has played 45 league games for Liverpool since joining the club in 2006, and since then has scored 2 league goals. Agger is known as a more attacking defender, and one of the more key goals was when he scored to tie the game up at 1-1 on aggregate against Chelsea, from a Steven Gerrard free-kick. He's scored 3 international goals as well for Denmark, and he could have gone on to play even more games for Liverpool if not for a metatarsal injury he picked up in the 2007 pre-season. ------------------ Will finish up some other time ![]() Cheers

(Finishing Up)
6. David Bentley http://en.wikipedia.org/David_Bentley Bentley can play across the midfield in various positions, and started his senior career at Arsenal. However, he only managed 1 appearance for the Gunners in the League, before being shipped out on loan to Norwich City from 2004 to 2005, making 26 appearances and scoring 2 goals. He came back in 2005, but submitted a transfer request, and soon was on loan at Blackburn Rovers, and joined Rovers in 2006. 102 appearances and 13 goals in the League, and many fantastic performances soon saw him move to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of the 2008-09 season. 7. Andrei Kanchelskis http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrei_Kanchelskis Kanchelskis played in the Premier League with Manchester United and Everton, amassing a total 175 appearances, and 31 goals. Kanchelskis is the only player to have scored in the Glasgow, Manchester and Merseyside derbies. Cemented himself as a right winger under Sir Alex Ferguson, he was their first "proper" right-winger since Steve Coppell. He moved to Everton after falling out with Sir Alex, and joined Everton for a fee of 5 million pounds. He played 52 games for Everton, and built up a cult hero status with the fans and scored 20 goals for the Toffees. 8. Tim Cahill http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Cahill Tim Cahill has played a total of 117 top-flight games for Everton, and has established himself as a key figure in Everton's starting line-up since joining the club from Millwall in 2004. The Australian midfielder has scored 34 goals in the Premier League, and can play as a central midfielder or an attacking midfielder. In October 2006, Cahill became the first Everton player in 18 years to be nominated as one of the 50 nominees for the Ballon D'Or. He also scored Australia's first ever goal in the World Cup Finals, netting against Japan in a 2006 World Cup group stage game, in a game which ended 3-1 to the Aussies, with Cahill adding another later on and adding an assist to his tally for that game, and was also chosen as the Man Of The Match for that game. 9. Mark Hughes http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Hughes Hughes played for Manchester United, Chelsea, Southampton and Everton in the Premier League, amassing more than 400 games in total. He played for Manchester United twice in his career, but only in his second stint did he appear in the Premier League for the Red Devils. He moved to Chelsea after the 1995 season for 1.5 million pounds, and scored 25 times in 95 appearances for them, followed by moving on to Southampton for 650,000 pounds. As a player, Hughes has been induced into the English Football Hall Of Fame. One of his more memorable occasions was with Manchester United, scoring a spectacular equaliser against Oldham Athletic in the FA Cup a goal which has been described as one of the finest goals ever scored by a Manchester United player. 10. Ole Gunnar Solskjær http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ole_Gunnar_Solskj%C3%A6r Norwegian striker Solskjær played for Manchester United from 1996 to 2007, ending his career at the Red Devils, having scored a total of 91 goals in 235 top flight games. He has been knighted by King Harvard V of Norway, and in doing so becoming the youngest person to be knighted in Norway. Solskjær scored 6 minutes into his debut for Manchester United, after leaving Norwegain Premier League side Molde, against Blackburn Rovers. In his first season at the club, Solskjær scored 18 goals for the team in the league, and helped the team in winning the 1999-2000 UEFA Champions League, scoring the winner which helped Manchester United complete the Treble that year. He hit 3 shots on target in his testimonial, which gathered crowds of 68,868 spectators, putting it at 2nd place in terms of attendance, behind Irishman Roy Keane's testimonial. 11. Paul Walsh http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Walsh Walsh was more well-known for his time at Liverpool, which lasted until 1988, but yet even after that he was still a force to be reckoned with, playing for Portsmouth, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur. Walsh formed a productive partnership with Paul Stewart in his first season at Spurs, helping the team reach a respectable 6th place, following which his only success came in the FA Cup in 1991, coming on as a substitute at Wembley. His first stint at Pompey was not in the Premier League, though he did score a brace in a fantastic 2-2 draw with the then Premier League holders Manchester United, but unfortunately lost the replay 1-0. Walsh then moved on to Manchester City, and in his first season at the club he helped them escape relegation, scoring 6 goals in the final 10 games of the season, and the club finished in 16th place, forming yet another exciting partnership, this time with Uwe Rösler. Walsh had a great start to his second season, but he soon left City in a swap deal with Gerry Creaney, joining Portsmouth where he ended his career. --------------------------------------------------- My final formation: ---------------------Bosnich--------------------------- Arbeloa---------Carragher-------------Agger------------Finnan --------Bentley---------Cahill----------Kanchelskis---------- -----------------------Hughes---------------------------- --------------Solskjær--------Walsh----------------------- Goalkeeper/Defence Bosnich will try and knock it short for Arbeloa or Finnan to run forward, or smash it towards Hughes to make a good run towards the goal and pass around. Personally, I know my defence could be a lot better, probably in the left-back department. However, Carragher, Agger and Finnan are rocks at the back, and will keep out any possible attackers. Arbeloa and Finnan will run down the flanks and provide crosses in to Solskjær and Walsh, and also Hughes. Midfield Bentley and Kanchelskis will run forward and can drift out to the flank, and also down the middle and take a couple of good pot shots at goal, and also provide for Cahill, Solskjær and Walsh to knock in past the opponents. Cahill can take the ball and run at the opposition defence, and score a couple of goals, and also provide balls through for the attackers ahead of him and get the goals in. Cahill is also a reliable midfielder and penalty taker, so hence he is both my free-kick taker and penalty kick taker. Attack Solskjær and Walsh both have fantastic scoring records, and can work up a great partnership with each other and provide for each other, and score goals. The pair will be provided with passes from Cahill, Kanchelskis, Bentley, Arbeloa and Finnan on a regular basis, and will have the ability to put the ball in the back of the net. Hughes can also push forward and add to the strikeforce to make the formation 4-3-3, but can also drop back as an attacking midfielder. Hughes can fire in shots from a long range, and can also provide for the 2 frontmen. ------------------ Captain: Carragher Free-kick Taker: Cahill Penalty Taker: Cahill / Hughes Corner Taker: Kanchelskis Throw-In Taker: Random... ------------------- That's my team done then

My final team:
I’m going to do this in order from back to front and not the draft order, here goes… Number 1- Shay Given ![]() Shay has been number 1 at Newcastle for almost as long I care to remember watching English games. He’s always been a top performer in my eyes and for this reason I picked him as my goalie. Some say he’s always been let down by poor defenders in front of him but with some bigger clubs showing some alleged interest he’ll maybe show in the near future just how good he is. Number 2- Tomas Repka ![]() What is there to say about this West Ham hero, he was always a solid performer but is more infamous for his disciplinary record- he was even sent off on his debut at West Ham. The guy was hard as nails. Every team needs a nutter, so here he is, Repka. Number 3- Graeme Le Saux ![]() Le Saux was and England and Chelsea regular, a solid performer in the premiership. Could do a job in midfield but I’ve chosen him as my left back. Number 4- Christian Dailly ![]() A player with a name that sounds like a religious newspaper. Dailly has always been a player I’ve liked. I remember him from the old Scottish Premier League sticker books from his Days at Dundee United. His move took him down south to Derby then on to Blackburn, he then moved to West Ham United becoming somewhat of a cult hero. Dailly could play any where in a back 4 and was often deployed in midfield. He is going to be my Centre Half though. Christian Dailly was also a man of integrity and didn’t like cheats… www.youtube.com/watch?v=BeXhoCNqJJQ Number 5- Martin Keown ![]() What can you say about this man? A quality centre half who turned out for Arsenal over 300 times and made over 40 caps for England. Much over looked by guys like Tony Adams but a quality player none the less. Keown won the league 3 time with Arsenal. A proper English defender. No nonsense… well apart from that business with Ruud van Nistelroy… |

Number 6- Gilberto Silva
![]() Gilberto was slow to start off in his career at Arsenal. Once the Brazilian made established himself in the side he was made captain on Henry’s absence due to injury. Whilst in his time at Arsenal Silva showed his class as a defensive midfielder breaking up opposition play. Keeping it simple tackling then a quick pass to a team mate would set off an attack. So here it is Gilberto in as my player in the holding role. Number 7- Jose Antonio Reyes ![]() Granted Reyes is the weak link in my team. Primarily played up front but could play on the left. This is where I chose to play him. With other choices I would make I needed a left footed left sided player and he seemed to fit the bill. I wish I’d picked a certain other player here but Reyes will do. He receives a fair whack of stick but imo wasn’t that bad, he was a bit though… Number 8- Xavi Alonso ![]() I’ve always quite liked Alonso. He get lumped as a holding midfielder far too often, imo he is a lot more than just another defensive mid. Alonso is a quality passer of the ball with a great vision and a good range of passing. As well as passing Alonso is more than capable of pinging a screamer in from outside the box, famously scoring twice in one season from his own half. Xavi will slot in nicely along side Gilberto and provide a strong pairing in the middle of the park. |

Number 9- Robbie Fowler
![]() This man is one of my favourite ever players. From a young age-pretty much when I realised there was football outside of Scotland- he was one of the players I latched on to. Watching Match of the day and seeing Fowler banging them in is a fine memory from my younger days. Fowler wasn’t the biggest of strikers but was mobile and quick he had a wicked finish and made for him scoring a barrel load in his time at Liverpool- infact he is the main reason that I’ve always had a wee soft spot for Liverpool. Due to injury his time at Leeds and Man City were less than successful a surprise move seen Fowler go back to Liverpool 2 seasons ago but after a decent return he never signed on for another season. Fowler will make a nice addition to my squad here along side the other lads I have in the team. Number 10- Steve McManaman ![]() A right sided midfielder who could play behind the strikers as well in my case he’ll be on the right. A gifted player but was often tarred as a “spice boy” along side Robbie Fowler and the other Liverpool players of the time. Steve McManaman will provide the passes and crosses into the box for my strikers to latch on to, as well as a lovely hair cut. Number 11- Kevin Phillips Phillips is another wee striker along side Fowler. He was pacey and mobile and could get in about a defence- he scored over 30 goals in his first premiership season. Whilst later season weren’t just as successful Phillips maintained a reputation of being able to score goals at the highest level. His most famous premiership spell was with Sunderland but he also scored afew at Southampton and Villa before moving down into the Championship. Along side Fowler I’d expect lots of movement and pace which would turn a defence inside out. Tactics Lets have a 4-4-2, no messing around here ![]() ----------------------Given --------Repka-Dailly-Keown-Le Saux McManaman-Alonso-Gilberto Silva-Reyes ----------------Phillips-Fowler These lads won’t be hoofing the ball and I’d expect with their quality some nice moves would be on. Defence The defence would be a solid unit. With Repka an able centre back aswell they would be handy in the air defending set pieces etc. Le Saux could play his game getting forward and help provide balls for attack. Dailly and Keown would make a no nonsense centre half partnership and with Given behind them the whole unit is pretty safe. Midfield The centre mid pairing of Alonso and Gilberto would provide a lot of protection for my defence. However Gilberto and Alonso in particular can provide balls for other players to latch on to. With Reyes and McManaman they’re would be plenty of creativity. As both were able in central roles I could see both coming inside and making things happen. They’re movement and creativity will be a good foil for my strikers. Up front Fowler and Phillips will move around a lot- being wee guys they will make it hard for larger defenders to keep a hold on them. I’d expect them pulling men out of position and with Reyes and McManaman’s movement in midfield they would be a nightmare for a defence. Whilst neither would be considered a target man I’d hope I wouldn’t need one. My team should be more than capable of playing nice balls in to feet where these lads could benefit. |

Right, I will go in order that they were picked. Extremely sorry, but I just don't have the time to upload pictures, and I'm not being lazy!
Anyway, on with the team.1: Ryan Giggs: Ryan Giggs is one of the finest players I have ever seen. He is 35 years of age, and for the last 18 or so years has been an indespensible figure in Man Utd's line up. Right from when he first played a premiership game Giggsy has been a tremdous player. Last season he scored his 100th United goal, against Derby County. 2 avid James avid James is currently 38 years of age, and still an amazing 'keeper at Portsmouth. He has let in some absoloute howlers and had some horrendous haircuts, but he's overall a legend. He has played at Liverpool, Villa, Portsmouth, Man City, West Ham and before premiership times, Watford.3:Paolo Di Canio: Di Canio, the Italian master, played for three clubs whilst in the Premiership. THese were Sheffield Wednesday, West Ham and Charlton Athletic. In 189 Premiership games, he scored 67 goals. This is under a 1 in 3 ratio and as well as this, he was a tremendous playmaker, and created the most valuable goals. What a player. 4:Nigel Winterburn:Nigel Winterburn is a contender for the all time best English left back. He most famously played at Arsenal, and played 440 games for them. Ridiculously, he only made 2 England caps, but that did not effect his play. He shone at Arsenal, and ended his career just as well at West Ham. The ultimate defender. 5:Ronny Johnsen:He won't be remembered as being an outstanding player, but Johnsen was a very solid. He won 4 Premership's with United and an FA Cup and a European Cup. He could also fill in in midfield if needed. Johnsen played for Aston Villa as well, and ended his Premiership career with 3 games for Newcastle. A good player. OK, that's all for now, and I will finish up this evening or later tomorrow.

6. Michael Essien:A versatile player, who can play in the meat of the midfield, at right back or covering the back four. For me, he will be playing in central midfield. He has got himself a name at Chelsea as a top class player. He has the ability to put in a crunching tackle, a goal saving tackle, a neat finish or an absoloute screamer, as demonstrated against Arsenal a few seasons back. Good player.
7. Tugay: Tugay is a favourite amongst the Blackburn fans, and has been since joining in 2001. He rarely plays these days, but has a coaching role and is on pay as you go. He scored Blackburn's goal of the season in 2007. He has played 220 games for Blackburn and has scored 11. 8. Duncan Feguson: Big Dunc was a favourite at both Everton and Newcastle. He began his Premiership career at Everton, scoring 37 goals in 116 games. He then moved to Newcastle for 2 years, scoring 8 in 30. To end his career he returned to Everton and stayed there from 2000-06. In this spell he scored 22 in 123. Ferguson was a big, strong striker and a top predator for goals. John Terry and Sami Hyppia have named Ferguson as their all time toughest opponent. 9. Fabrizio Ravenelli:Another Italian talent, Ravanelli began his Premiership career at Middlesborough. He completed 1 season, scoring 17 in 34. This, however, didn't keep the team away from relegation and Fabrizio left. After spells in France and Italy, Ravanelli returned and played a season in the Premiership with Derby. Ravanelli's best moment would be scoring a hat trick on his Middlesborough debut, against Liverpool on the first day of the season. 10. Mikael Silvestre: Silvestre played for United for 9 years, and became a great player. He formed a partnership with Rio Ferdinand, that was at one point touted as the best since Bruce and Pallister. He also played at left back where he created numerous goals, and scored a few as well, most notably his double against Liverpool. Injuries prevented Silvestre from playing regularly though, but he made recoveries numerous times. He then moved to Arsenal, where he plays now. Silvestre played 249 games for United and scored 6.

Sorry, I accidently pressed post reply.
11. Jesper Gronkjaer: And last, but not least, Jesper Gronkjaer. In 2000 Jesper Gronkjaer moved to Chelsea. As a right winger Gronkjaer had tremendous pace, and the ability to take on defenders. Gronkjaer's form dipped a lot, but he scored some vital goals, such as the winner at Old Trafford and a goal at Anfield that qualified Chelsea for the Champions League.Gronkaer ended his Premiership career at Birmingham, where he didn't find much form, but regained his form with a move abroad. So that concludes my team! The Analysis will follow tomorrow

![]() Marc Overmars Though he was only at Arsenal for a short period, in that period he made a great impact. With his blistering pace, he was feared among opposing full backs. Able to nip in with crucial goals, he became an integral part of Arsenal`s title winning side of the 1997-98 season. ![]() Ian Wright One of the best natural goalscorers of the Premier League era. Wrighty lead the team from the front, never giving opposing defenders time on the ball. Even in an Arsenal side that was undergoing changes during the mid-nineties, before Wenger and Bergkamp came along, he was still able to top the scoring charts. ![]() Sami Hyypia Sami has been at Liverpool for some years now. One of their most consistent performers throughout a time that has seen alot of players come and go at Anfield. Though suspect to a few clangers in his time, he more than makes up for it with his contribution of goals, important saving tackles, heading out of dangerous crosses into the box, which will be a major asset to my team. ![]() Gary McAllister Well known for his time at Leeds United, captaining the side, and winning a special place in the heart of the fans with his fine attitude, long-range strikes and set-pieces. After Leeds he moved onto Coventry for four years before he ended up at Liverpool, though his ability wasn`t in question, it was still a surprise to see `pool signing a player nearing the end of his career. Proves how good he still was by that stage. ![]() Joe Cole Alot of people had high hopes of Joey when he was a youth player at West Ham, he quickly progressed and made his Premiership bow at the age of 17. When West Ham were relegated, he moved onto Chelsea. Though he struggled to hold down a place at Chelsea, he soon secured himself a spot in the starting line-up, he was a star as they won back to back titles. A player of great ability, aswell as versatility, he will be a invaluable asset to my side. |

![]() Ray Parlour I kind of have mixed feeling towards this pick now, I would idealy have liked a Forward instead, but hey-ho. Though his main position is in centre midfield, he could still do a good job at right wing. Admittedely not the most skillful of players, but more than makes up for it with his work rate - which is one of the reasons why I picked him. ![]() Des Walker The outstanding player for Sheffield Wednesday for some years. Captaining the side, he lead them to respectable mid-table finishes, before they were eventually relegated. ![]() Ed De Goey Chelsea payed a then Premiership record of 2.2m for a Goalkeeper, a fee which de Goey duely payed back. Solid throughout his time at Chelsea, breaking club records during his time there. Michael Carrick Has come on leaps and bounds since I seen him put on a Birmingham City shirt when he was on loan. To be honest, I didn`t think he`d end up playing for a club like Man United. His range of passing is the best attribute of his game, aswell as getting his foot in and breaking up the play. ![]() Lauren I`ve always liked Lauren, he`s the type of fullback every team could wish of having. He could bomb up and down the touchline all day if he could, great if you`re the winger playing ahead of him. Defensively a bit suspect, but no winger could beat him for athletism and pace. |

![]() Andy Hinchcliffe There might be unpicked leftbacks that are better than Andy, but were they better than him at set-pieces? Somehow, I don`t think so... One of today main routes to goal is from set-pieces, and boy did he supply and score a few! Goalkeeper/Defence I think overall I have put together a solid looking backline. With de Goey being a tall `keeper he should be able to dominate his area, coming for any crosses and freekicks. I`ll be looking for him to set off any counter-attack opportunities, distributing the ball to the pacey Overmars and the tricky Cole. Walker and Hyypia are two tall and strong players, so they should be able to nullify any long balls hoofed up to any opposing target men. Seeing as Hyypia isn`t the most mobile of defenders, it`s Walker`s job to clear-up any balls that are played through. My two full-backs will look to get forward to help out the attacks if/when they can. And they`re more than capable of dealing with any opposing wingers. Midfield Carrick`s job will be to sit in midfield, helping out the defence. While McAllister`s job is to get forward when he can. They will both collect passes from my two central defenders, looking to spray the ball around, to the wingers and forwards. Parlour isn`t the classiest of midfielders, so Lauren will be the man to support him with over-lapping runs. Overmars will be the main man of my midfield, looking to take the ball at every opportunity, running with the ball, getting crosses in, latching onto balls that are successfully played through. Attack Joe Cole will be the link between midfield and attack. Playing a free role, it`s important that he gets the ball and creates opportunities for himself, Wright, Overmars and co. Wright ain`t the most physical of Strikers, so playing him as a target man is a no-no, though he`ll instructed to hold the ball up whenever he can and bring other players in to play. He`ll be on the the shoulder of defenders looking to spring on any defence splitting passes. Goey

I have gone with a 3-4-3 formation, which I think best accomodates my selection of players.
James Johnsen Silvestre Winterburn Gronkjaer Essien Tugay Giggs Di Canio Ravanelli Ferguson Sorry, it's not very neat! <b>Goalkeeper and Defence</b> David James' safe hands will hopefully make my team very hard to score against. As well as his commanding presence, three top class defenders will be protecting the goal. Of the trio, Winterburn will play on the left, Silvestre in the centre and Johnsen to the right, but primarily they are all central defenders. At corners, Johnsen will go up. He should be able to bag a few goals with his big headers. <b> Midfield</b> My midfield consists of 4 top players. Giggs and Gronkjaer are occupying the wide positions. Their abudance of pace and falir will get the team in threatening positions, and we will be able to get crosses in from the byline. In the centre are two tough central midfielders. Essien and Tugay are both top notch tacklers and are both very energetic(Essien esp.). They will also be able to use their skillful passing to set free the wingers, or slot it through to the strikers. A very strong midfield imo. <b> Forwards/Strikers</b> Paolo Di Canio will be playing just off my two main strikers. His role is the playmaker, or 'free role' in my team. He will create chances for the front two to pounce on. He can also score plenty of goals and create even more. My top two are Ravanelli and Ferguson. Ferguson's physical presence will be used in a manner similar to Emile Heskey's. He will knock the ball on or hold it up, for Ravenelli or Di Canio or another player to finish or strike. He is also a danger from corners with his heading, and when he gets the chance to score, he will. Ravanelli will be the Michael Owen, supposing Ferguson is the Heskey. He will score a majority of the goals, but will also be setting up Big Dunc or Di Canio. So, that concludes my write up. I am resonably pleased with my team ans score it 7/8 out of ten. Atm I think Dave and Champomania have the best teams.

1. FABIEN BARTHEZ GOALKEEPER Played 150 times for Man Utd, 92 of which were premiership games. Was in the 2001 PFA team of the year. Capped 86 times for France. A flamboyant, eccentric but often brilliant keeper, no stranger to playing as an extra sweeper outside the box when needed so he will suit my attacking vision for this team. 2. MARKUS BABBEL RIGHT BACK Capped 51 times for Germany including when they won the European Championship in 1996 he won many honours at club level including 4 Bundesliga's, 2 UEFA Cup's and the FA Cup. Although his time in the Premiership was marred by a serious illness, Gulillane-Barre Syndrome, he played for Liverpool & then Blackburn for about 60 games between 2000 and 2004. He was an integral member of Liverpool's historic 2000–01 treble winning side. As well as being a solid defender his characteristic raiding runs down the right side will lead to plenty of goals. He is big and strong and well capable of providing crosses for my front pair to score from. 3. STEVE STAUNTON LEFT BACK The Republic of Irelands most capped player with 102 gaps during which he scored 7 times. He also played in the final stages of 3 World Cups Steve played a total of 109 times for Liverpool and 278 times for Aston Villa between 1986 and 2003 – he had 2 spells with each club. He probably won less than his professionalism deserved, but at least he had a League title, 2 League Cups and a couple of Charity Shields in his trophy cabinet. I’ve picked 'Stan' as he is an absolute legend in Irish football terms, despite his disastrous spell as national team manager. He is equally at ease playing left back, centre half or even occasionally as a defensive midfielder. As I have a great belief that your Captain should be a born leader and a good ‘shouter’ and organiser, Steve Staunton is my team Captain. 4. PAUL MCGRATH CENTRE HALF Another Irish legend. If there’s one thing we have plenty of practice at it’s defending and they don’t come much better than Paul McGrath. Capped 83 times for Rep Ireland, surely would have been more but for crippling injuries and ‘personal problems’ off the field. Despite this McGrath managed to play 415 times for Man Utd and then Aston Villa. PFA player of the year in 1993, he starred for Ireland in Euro 88, Italia 90 and USA 94. Who could forget his immense performances in those 3 tournaments? A feature of my side will be their versatility and while I would mostly use McGrath as a centre back, I also have the option of playing him in midfield or even at right back with no fears. 5. MARK WRIGHT CENTRE HALF The final piece in my defensive jigsaw and unsurprisingly it’s someone who is tall, strong, good in the air and can tackle with the best of them. Wright played 158 times for Liverpool between 1991 and 1998 as well as gaining 45 England caps. I am certain he will make a great defensive partner for Paul McGrath and will be a good asset at set pieces both defensive and offensively. 6. GARY SPEED CENTRE MIDFIELD Gary Speed is still playing with Sheffield Utd in the Championship after becoming the record holder for premiership appearances with Leeds Utd, Everton, Newcastle and finally Bolton. In total he has played 669 games scoring 133 goals, which is a good goals per game ratio for a midfielder. In addition to hat impressive record he was capped 85 times for Wales. I see him as an ideal central midfield partner for Steven Gerrard. 7. MIKEL ARTETA RIGHT MIDFIELD Arteta joined Everton in 2005 and has made approximately 128 appearances scoring 17 goals. Amazingly he has never been capped at full international level by his native Spain. Arteta is a stylish player with excellent close control and dribbling, which allows him to go past defenders regularly. This ability to beat his man makes him a difficult opponent. I feel his best football for Everton has been when he was used in a wider role and so I am going to make use of that by playing him as an attacking right-sided midfielder. I have the added benefit that he can interchange easily with Speed or Gerrard and play in the centre if required. 8. STEVEN GERRARD ATTACKING CENTRE MIDFIELD So far Gerrard has played 322gamesfor Liverpool, scoring 64 times and also has an impressive14 goals in 70 appearances for England. Many of his goals particularly for Liverpool have been vital ones, most notably of course when he started Liverpool’s fight back when losing 3-0 to Ac Milan in the Champions League Final in Istanbul. With a solid defence in place and Gary Speed and Mikel Arteta capable of holding midfield while he rampages forward I intend to give Stevie G full licence to get forward and support my front two at every available opportunity. 9. NIALL QUINN CENTRE FORWARD The ‘Mighty Quinn’ played 92 times for Republic of Ireland scoring 21 goals including one v Holland in Italia ’90 which ensured he would go as one of Irelands legendary players. Of course he started his career with Arsenal but that was pre premiership. He played with distinction for both Man City and Sunderland, 133 / 117 respectively. Overall his career tally shows 473 games with 141 goals. He’s tall of course so naturally he is good in the air but to use the old cliché, for such a big man he’s pretty good on the ground too. I think he will be a perfect foil for the lightning quick Torres. I can see Torres racing through on goal time and time again chasing flick ons from Quinn. A lethal combination in the mould of Toshack & Keegan. 10. FERNANDO TORRES STRIKER Has only played 46 times for Liverpool scoring 31 goals, so in appearance terms he only barely made the selection criteria. Lucky for me eh? Liverpool’s top scorer in his debut season and an easy pick for the Premier League PFA team of the year in 2008. This all came of course after an impressive spell in his native Spain with Athletico Madrid for whom he played 214 times scoring 82 goals. On the international front he has made 58 appearances and scored 18 teams, including of course the only goal in the final of their Euro 2008 final win. He was named Man of the Match for that and was also in the ‘Team of The Tournament’. So already he has made a huge impact on the Premiership and his goals have turned Liverpool into serious contenders for the Premiership matter that Benitez is trying to mess that up! I see him as a perfect partner for Niall Quinn in my team. 11. CHRIS WADDLE LEFT MIDFIELD Last but not least, former England international Chris Waddle. He was capped 62 times scoring 6 goals. Played the majority of his premiership games for Sheffield Wednesday upon his return from a successful stint in France. He played 109 times for the Owls scoring 10 goals. He also played 7 times (1 goal) for Sunderland. One of the true flair players to have played in the Premiership. Equally comfortable on the left or right side and a super crosser of the ball, Waddle will be tasked with the job of supplying the ammunition for Quinn and Torres to fire home. Formation / Style Attacking 4-4-2 with Waddle and Arteta in advanced wide roles. Quinn to play as traditional centre forward, holding the ball up for Gerrard or flicking on for Torres. Speed to play as a holding midfielder with Staunton and Babbel covering behind the wingers.

![]() Very experienced Premiership goalkeeper. Well over 300 appearances to his name, the majority of which were with Tottenham. Not the best to have played, but nevertheless he was solid and made very few mistakes indeed. His experience and reliability would be an asset to my team, and ensure the defenders in front of him are confident in his abilities. Roland Nilsson ![]() Delighted to secure a quality international right-back, considering how late I decided to attend to this position. One of the best defenders to emerge from Sweden (and still their record cap holder I believe), injuries ruined what could have been an even better Premier League career. He only made 130-odd appearances, but it was enough to showcase his abilities at the back. Frank Leboeuf ![]() Top centre-back, one of the best around when he was playing. Was vital for Chelsea in the centre of defence alongside Desailly. Scored plenty of goals too, for a defender, as he was took penalties for Chelsea on many occasions. His ability to carry the ball from defence was another factor that influenced my choice, as I believe every team needs at least one centre-back who can do this effectively. Internationally, he was unlucky to be in the same generation as Desailly and Blanc. Still managed to win 50 caps mind. William Gallas ![]() Another fine Premiership central defender. So far has not received the credit his time in England perhaps deserves. His contribution to Chelsea when he played alongside John Terry during their infamous clean sheet run was only felt when he was shunted out to left-back, or injured. As far as I am concerned, he is best in the centre and that is where he shall be deployed in my line-up. Will form a watertight French combination with Lebeouf, and the two in front of him (Vieira and Petit). Phil Neville ![]() Mocked/hated by many stupid England fans because he gave away a penalty against Romania in Euro 2000, this should not detract from the fact he is in fact a quality full-back. Bags of experience, and knows how to win medals from his time at Man Utd. His versatility means he can play on either side, or in central midfield. I shall use him at left-back, where his more than able to do a good job. More than happy with my choice here, and along with the other three I believe would form a strong defence.

![]() Been around for so long, since 1995-96, and has a 1 in 4 scoring rate from central midfield, which is incredible. Over 100 Premiership goals scored was enough to convince me to select him. I felt it was vital to have at least one of the Premiership 100-club, and thankfully I have two. His longevity and consistency, especially at Chelsea, will be important in my midfield. He will have Vieira and Petit alongside him to carry out most of the defensive duties. Patrick Vieira ![]() My midfield enforcer, and easily one of the greatest Premiership midfielders ever. Many would include him in an all-time XI. He would be my captain on the pitch. Brilliant in the tackle, excellent distribution, and when it takes his fancy very good at getting into the box. Arsenal have been poor since he left - demonstrating his monstrous contribution to their success. Emmanuel Petit ![]() Such a classy player, and formed a top partnership in the middle with Vieira, a big influence in my choosing of him. Primarily a defensive player, he was however very good on the ball and was able to carry it forward or play it from deep. I believe he is different to my other two midfielders, and thus complements them perfectly. He completes my immense midfield trio. Harry Kewell ![]() Above is the rare sight of Harry Kewell playing in a Liverpool shirt. Unfortunately, this is how many remember his time in the Premiership. He did in fact have a very good first season with them, scoring 7 in 36 apps. (11 in 49 in all competitions). After that however, injuries took over. Before his move to Liverpool, he was a brilliant attacking player with Leeds. Scored 57 Prem goals in over 250 appearances - roughly a 1 in 5 ratio. Able to play on the left, or up-front behind the striker(s), I will be using his talents in the latter position.

![]() My star player. Capable of producing something from nothing. It was so important for mee to get a player of this type in my team, as there have been so very few in the Premiership. To have one of this man's quality is very pleasing. A legend in this country, and scorer of 87 Prem goals, he will form a fantastic partnership with Nicolas Anelka, someone who he played with (and excelled with) in real life at Arsenal. Nicolas Anelka ![]() Known as a bit of a sulk, but nevertheless a fantastic player. The second member of the Premiership 100-club to grace my team. He has fantastic pace, and clinical finishing, and his ability as an out-and-out striker finishes my team. He should get plenty of chances with all the creative ability around him. Currently on 103 Prem goals, there's no reason why he can't get close to 150 - providing he hangs around long enough.

The emphasis is very much on partnerships, especially the Arsenal connections in midfield and up-front. The familiarity will undoubtedly aid my team if it came to playing a real match. Lampard's runs into the box will take the attention of at least one defender, allowing Bergkamp a bit of freedom to wreak havoc, or indeed Harry Kewell. This does of course work both ways. Vieira and Petit ensure defensive solidity and protection for what is already a very strong back-line.
